So, you’ve planted your Endless Summer® Hydrangeas in decorative containers and have fallen in love! But you have that summer getaway this weekend, and you’re worried about leaving them alone. We’re here to help ease those worries with some tips on how to make sure your Endless Summer® Hydrangeas stay alive during your weekend away.
Check the weather and water accordingly.
If it looks like it’s going to rain, or the weather is mild, and you’re only gone for a day or two, giving your containers a good soaking before you take off will most likely do the trick. However, if the forecast shows no rain in sight and calls for hot, humid weather, you’ll want to choose one of the following options. While weather reports aren’t always reliable, this is a great place to start.
Ask your plant-loving friends about their weekend plans.

Make your own self-watering system.
On the day you leave, water your hydrangeas like normal. Then, fill up an empty and clean bottle with water. Put your thumb over the top, flip upside down, and push it into the soil. Make sure the bottle is a few inches under the soil surface and secure. The water will slowly release out of the bottle as the soil dries out. For smaller containers, use an empty plastic bottle. For larger containers, use an empty wine bottle or two.
Install a drip irrigation system on a timer.
This one will take a little bit more time to set up, but once installed, you will be able to use this whether you’re on a trip or at home. All you have to do is head to your local garden center and pick up the necessary items, either sold separately or in a kit. This may be the best option if you have several container plantings or your summer vacation calendar is filling up quickly!
